On September 10, 2018, a delegation of Consumer Union of Tajikistan visited Uzbekistan at the invitation of the Federation of Societies on Consumer Rights Protection of Uzbekistan. The purpose of their visit is to get acquainted closely with the activities of the Federation and its regional associations, exchange of experience, exchange of views on introduction of modern methods and mechanisms of protection of consumers’ rights. In this regard, on September 10, the Federation hosted a meeting at the “Poytakht” Business Center. Members of the Consumer Union Delegation of Tajikistan, members of Federation and regional associations, partner organizations and mass media took part in it.
During the meeting, the delegation members were informed by the head of the Federation, J.Sarimsakov, about the activities of the Federation and its regional associations, protection of the rights and interests of citizens as consumer, the order of receiving, studying and resolving consumer complaints. In particular, during the first half of 2018, the Federation and its regional associations received 6 713 written and verbal applications from consumers, of which 6131 (91.3%) were resolved positively.
As a result, the damage to the amount of 3 billion 570 million 667 thousand sums in favor of consumers was recalculated.
The main focus of the event was focused on the work being done in the sphere of public utility services for consumers. Thus, in this industry 331 appeals (4.9% of total applications) were received from citizens for this year. Applications have been studied within the framework of the Federation system, and they are being positively resolved.
In the past, the Federation also studied the quality of private homeowners’ services by conducting a survey among the public (consumers). 8367 respondents (consumers) of different ages participated in the survey.
Based on the results of the survey, recommendations were introduced to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the agency “Uzkommunkhizmat” on the basis of the opinions and suggestions on eliminating existing shortcomings and problems in the industry.
In addition, the Federation gave their recommendations about working out a draft of the Government Resolution of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Public Utility Service in the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “On Improvement of Interaction with Housing Owners’ Associations in Enhancement of Communal Services and Housing Funds with Self-Governance Bodies of Their Associations” and acting as a working group to amend and supplement the current “Rules of Providing Heat Supply Services in Multi-Apartment Houses”.
During the event, the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzstandard agency, Uztransgaz, Uzbekenergo and several partner organizations provided information on the consumer situation.
During the meeting, responsible officials of the Ministry of Health together with the Federation and other public organizations dwelled on the work being done to combat tobacco products.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
The Delegation of the Consumers’ Union of Tajikistan is scheduled to visit the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and hold a meeting at the Center for Strategy of Action.
Members of the delegation will visit these regions to get acquainted with the activities of the Fergana, Namangan and Samarkand regional associations of the Federation.
